Society Successes

Dr. FlackBy Sean Flack, MBChB, FCA
SPA News Editor

Thanks for reading the latest edition of SPA News. As is tradition, much of the newsletter is consumed by stellar reviews of the SPA, CCAS and SPPM meetings recently held at The Biltmore in Phoenix. Congratulations are due to the education committees for the outstanding venue and programs. Along with many great memories and learnings, SPA 2015 will be remembered as the year we broke the 1000 delegate threshold!

From the communication committee, we were happy to debut a mobile meeting guide in Phoenix and by the time this newsletter is published, the new and improved SPA website will be up and running. Please take a look if you have not done so already. One great reason to access the website is the Intensive Review of Pediatric Anesthesia (IRPA) course newly offered online by our society. You can download the entire course or pick and choose topics of interest from the lecture catalogue.

Julian Gore-Booth, the CEO of WFSA (World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists) updates us regarding the great work being accomplished by WFSA worldwide and the opportunities for interested SPA members to get involved or otherwise support their important work.

Our society supports a number of active outcome data projects including the Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery Perioperative Registry, the Difficult Airway Database and the Database of Fetal Intervention. In the newsletter we provide an update from the longest established database, the Pediatric Regional Anesthesia Network (PRAN) as well as a review of two recent publications from the PRAN consortium.

The common thread in my editor’s message as well as Dr. Malviya’s president’s message is that our society is busy, vibrant and active in supporting research and education and striving to deliver maximum value to you, our members. If there are topics you’d like addressed in the newsletter or on the website, please let me know. My email is sean.flack@seattlechildrens.org

Best wishes for a wonderful summer. Although it’s likely to be busy wherever you are working, be sure to play hard too! And start making plans to join us for the annual meeting in San Diego, October 23, 2015.
